Telling a story from the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology

Welcome to the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology and to the 29th annual Abbey Medieval Festival. Our event is now one of Australia’s premier living history events.  Medieval re-enactors, musicians and street performers from across Australia join in a dynamic display of life, pageantry and the drama of life in medieval Europe.

This event is hosted each year by the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology, to not only support the museum in the maintenance and care of its remarkable collection of international fine arts and antiquities, but also to fulfil its mission to provide quality education and public programs.

The Abbey Museum holds many unexpected treasures… the evidence of human endeavour and creativity, its collections have the ability to inspire, uplift, intrigue and inform and to enrich your live and only the Arts can. From Prehistory to the Industrial Revolution, the human story holds greatness and also smallness. The Middle Ages is a period like no other, that demonstrates the polarity of human existence.

At the Abbey Medieval Festival we are committed to providing an authentic experience, within the limitations of our Australian environment and modern laws of safety and health. It is through this commitment that we have created an event that engages multi-generational families. Our visitors, the young to the young at heart, enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and atmosphere that transports them through time to experience a little bit of medieval history.

This would not be possible without the dedication and passion for history of our staff, our many re-enactors and also the hard work of our volunteer teams. We thank them all for the contribution to the success of our Festival and supporting the ongoing work of the Abbey Museum.

Have a wonderful medieval experience this July .
