Ticketing information

Do I need to be Covid vaccinated to attend the Festival?

Festival participation in, and attendance at the Festival will be in accordance with any Government health mandates at that time. Currently, the Queensland Government mandate says you are NOT required to be vaccinated to attend a festival. However, it will be whatever the regulations are come 8 & 9 July.

How much do tickets cost?

Early Bird: 12th April – 31st May

Final Release: 1st June – 7th July unless sold out.

Children aged 4 years and under are free.

Holders of a valid Companion Card are granted one free entry to the Festival with a valid full fee ticket. Please email tickets@abbeytournament.com if you have any questions regarding Companion Cards.

All transactions are processed in AUD.

What does an entry ticket include?

Abbey Medieval Festival Tournament Weekend

A ticket to the Abbey Medieval Festival Tournament gives you access to the festival site with all the medieval encampments and the marketplace; also a wide range of programmed and unscheduled activities, excluding Jousting.  Your joust ticket will need to be pre-purchased as an add-on.

If you don’t get a chance to visit the Abbey Museum on the weekend, please present your Festival ticket to gain free entry unitl the end of the year (valid for one free entry per ticket holder unitl 31 December 2023).

Are there any surcharges when purchasing tickets?

Yes, our ticketing provider charges a ticketing fee.

Can I get a refund for my ticket?

It is the policy of the Abbey Medieval Festival that tickets are non-refundable. We do not give refunds if you simply change your mind or make a wrong decision.

Ticket insurance can be purchased through a third-party insurance provider at the time of ticket purchase. It is at your discretion whether you choose to purchase this and is not obligational.

Except due to cancellation of the Event as a response to a Queensland Heath Directive.

If the event is unable to proceed on the advertised date or location by Government order, the Abbey Medieval Festival committee reserves the right to reschedule the Event and offer a credit or exchange to the rescheduled date or offer a refund request window of 28 days.

The Abbey Medieval Festival is an “All Weather Event”, except in such case of a “Force Majeure” defined event or an act of violence, the Committee would cancel the event. No refunds will be made if you choose not to attend due to inclement weather.

There will be no refund on any unused portion of tickets if you or your invitees are asked or forced to leave or if you decide not to attend any part of the Event.

 

I purchased the wrong ticket, what do I do?

Requests for ticketing exchanges must be sent directly to the ticketing provider via refunds@ticketebo.com.au. Abbey Medieval Festival cannot guarantee this.

Joust tickets cannot be transferred to another time. Please choose your Joust time carefully to avoid disappointment. 

Can I get a promo code?

At times, promo codes are issued exclusively for partners, competition winners, sponsors and groups, and are not available to the general public.

Unauthorised use of a promo code will result in your ticket being at risk of non-refundable cancellation.

Sharing and distributing promo codes outside of authorised use may result in all tickets forfeited and use of promo code terminated.

Can I book as a group?

Due to the ongoing popularity of the Abbey Medieval Festival weekend and the Medieval Banquet, we do not offer group bookings.

We encourage visitors to keep an eye on the Abbey Medieval Festival Facebook page and subscribe to our newsletter for ticket release dates.

How to purchase tickets (video instruction 1 minute 28 seconds)

Due to a change of ticketing providers, tickets will be strictly online only, we are unable to offer ticket sales over the phone or in the office.

Tickets are exclusively online only.

 

Which cards are included in the Concession price?

Concession tickets are available if you have a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Qld Government Seniors Card, Qld Government Seniors Business Discount Card, Student Card, Qld Government Carers Business Discount Card, DVA Veteran Gold Card, and DVA White Card.

The National Seniors Card does not qualify for a Concession Ticket.

Patrons with an official Companion Card, accompanied with a Carer, pay Concession and their Carer receives free general admission. Card to be presented at the gate. *Not available for VIP, Joust or Banquet.  NB: Qld Government Carers Business Discount Card does not qualify for free entry.

How do I order a Companion Ticket?

Companions will receive free entry when presented with a purchased ticket holder. 

You will be required to show your companion card at the Entry Gate accompanied with a paid ticket holder.

Please note, the companion ticket does not include Jousting or VIP.

If attending the Joust all guests including the companion must have purchased a ticket prior to arriving at the event.

Event Times

What are the dates and times of the Medieval Tournament Weekend?

The Tournament Weekend is hosted on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 July 2023.

Gates open for patrons at 8:30am. VIP ticket holders may also gain entry from 8:30am through the VIP entry.

The Tournament Weekend program will conclude at 4:30pm each day, with the grounds closing at 5:00pm

What are the dates and times for the Abbey Museum's Medieval Family Fun Week?

Medieval Family Fun week will be held at the Abbey Museum from Monday 26th June – Friday 30 June 2023. Doors will open at 9.30am, with activities beginning at 10.00am.

What are the dates and times of the Knighting Ceremony?

A small intimate Knighting Ceremony is held ahead of the weekend on Friday 7 July at 7.00pm. This is a ticketed event and tickets are strictly limited.

What are the dates and times of the Medieval Banquet?

The Medieval Banquet will return as part of the festival this year on Saturday 1 July 2023. The evening starts around 6pm and continues until around 10pm.

This is a ticketed event, sold separately to Festival tickets, and tickets are strictly limited.

FAQs about the Abbey Medieval Festival Tournament Weekend

Do I need a ticket for the Joust (or for my child)?

Tickets to the Joust can be ordered as an add-on at the time of purchase. Tickets are $5.00 each.

Disability seating will be available at each Joust session. Please liaise with the Joust volunteer team at the Jousting Arena.

Usually a child under 5 would require a seat and, as seats are very limited, you would need to buy a ticket for a seat.

A baby on a lap would not require a ticket.

Will there be free parking?

Free parking is available around Abbeystowe; however, it is limited. The Wamuran Rural Fire Brigade will be assisting with parking over the Tournament weekend, they will gratefully accept gold coin donations from those willing to support the Rural Fire Service.

Disability parking is available. Patrons who need to access disability parking must have their permit clearly visible for parking attendants.

VIP parking is available for VIP ticket holders.

We also run a free shuttle bus service on Saturday and Sunday  every half hour commencing at 7:45am between the Caboolture train station and Festival site.

Is there disabled access?

A disability car park is available for patrons with a permit, located 250m from the front gate.

The Tournament ground is relatively flat, walkways are gravel or grass.

Can I bring my bag into the Festival grounds?

Yes, you can bring your bag into the Festival grounds. All bags are subject to search upon entry to the event. Bag checking will commence from 7:30am outside the gates.

Please note, this is not a BYO event and no glass is permitted.

Can I bring an animal?

For the comfort and safety of visitors, performers, staff and volunteers, animals are not permitted to be brought into the Festival, with the exception of service animals, such as certified assistance dogs and police dogs.

You will be required to show registration papers at entry for any assistance and certified dogs.

Can we camp?

No, unfortunately there is no camping for the public available on or in the immediate area around the Festival grounds. This area includes the St Michael’s College and the Abbey Museum.

There are plenty of accommodation options in the area.

How do I get a pass out?

Pass outs will be available at the exit gate. Any patron wishing to leave the main festival grounds and explore the Abbey Museum, Abbey Church or Sponsors Village will be given a wristband/stamp on exit.

Will you have First Aid and where will they be?

First Aid will be located next to the Public Safety and Operations Centre, just inside the Festival gates.

What happens to lost children?

Lost children will be taken to the Public Safety and Operations Centre where security and First Aid Volunteers are stationed. The Centre is located near the entry gates to the Festival site.

Does the Festival have a lost and found?

Lost and found items can be declared/collected from the Public Safety and Operations Centre which is located next to the gates at the Festival entry.

After the event you can contact the Abbey Museum office to report a lost item.

Do you have EFTPOS facilities?

Some of our stallholders and peddlers may not have EFTPOS facilities, and connectivity can be an issue, so we highly recommend bringing cash or using the ATM facilities which will be available at the Festival.

Can I dress up in costume?

Most definetely, in fact we encourage it! It not only adds to the atmosphere of the Festival but helps you become fully imersed in medieval life. Here are some ideas for costumes.

Can I bring a weapon as part of my costume?

All Festival patrons planning to bring a weapon as part of their costume (including those made of foam) must apply for a non-period weapons permit. The permit application can be completed online, or by reporting to the Public Safety and Operations Centre at the event. The Centre is located near the entry gates to the Festival site.

ITEMS NOT PERMITTED TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE ABBEY MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL

1. Cross Bows
2. Bows with working arrows (without written permission of the Public Safety, Operations and Risk Manager)
3. Spears and/or pikes
4. Axes over 1500mm (1.5m) long or tall
5. Weighted gloves or clothing with sharpened studs or similar
6. Maces
7. Firearms (includes replicas)
8. Any other category R or M weapon
9. Any other item defined as not being permitted

PLEASE NOTE: Submission of this application DOES NOT guarantee that you will be granted a permit.

Due to the fact that over 70% of previous applicants attempt to have the Public Safety Team store their weapons, there will now be a fee of $3.00 per application payable.

This fee will allow unlimited access to the “cloak-room” for your weapon(s)

What toilet facilities will you have on site?

Toilet facilities are available at both ends of the Festival grounds. They are also at the lower end of the parking area on the walkway to the Festival entry.

There are also disabled toilet facilities and a baby change tent just inside the Tournament gates (to the right).

Will there be places to sit?

Seating is scattered around Abbeystowe, you are also welcome to bring folding chairs or picnic blankets. Please note there are no storage lockers on site.

Will there be food and drink available?

Oh yes! A range of food and drinks will be available to purchase from stalls across the festival grounds. We work hard to ensure that only food from the Middle Ages is available at the event.

Patrons are also welcome to bring their own food.

Please note: no glass is permitted.

There are two licensed venues on Abbeystowe – the Stag Inn, which is located on the southern end of the festival site near the markets, and the Viking-themed Heorot Hall, located at the northern end of the festival site. Here you can purchase beer, mead, cider and wine as well as non-alcoholic drinks. The Stag Inn and Heorot Hall will serve alcohol from 10.00am on Saturday and Sunday.

Where can people smoke?

Patrons can only smoke in the designated outdoor smoking areas (DOSA) specifically set up on the field. They will be noted on the Festival map.

How can I join a re-enactment group?

Patrons interested in joining a group are welcome to talk to the group at the event.

Outside the event, you can read up on the groups attending the Festival, or look them up at Queensland Living History Federation and Australian Living History Federation’s website.

Can I compete in the Festival Tournaments?

No, these tournaments are only open to the re-enactment groups participating at the Festival. However, for a small fee you can try your hand at archery. Other activities, such as the Best Costume competition and Turkish Sheep Race will be available to participate in upon registration at the information desk.

Is photography permitted?

Photography is permitted via mobile phones for personal use only as per our terms and conditions. DSLR cameras & videography equipment including scope or long zoom lenses are strictly not permitted.

This is due to our existing agreements with media, and the dedicated service of our professional photography volunteers who go through procedures and policies to ensure safe practices and keeping with our medieval experience. Our photographers are easily identifiable by the public by their red and blue volunteer uniforms.

How is the festival keeping patrons safe from COVID?

The Abbey Medieval Festival is grateful for the ongoing cooperation and advice it has received from Queensland Health to assist in the planning for a COVID-19 safe event. We continue to work closely with the Department of Health and will keep our patrons informed on a regular basis via our website, social media pages and direct emails to ticket holders.
